Disinfect your pruning tools in a solution of one part chlorine bleach and nine parts water. You will need bypass pruners for small branches, lopping shears for medium branches and a pruning saw.

Look for any dead, diseased or inward-crossing/rubbing branches in the tree's canopy. These branches warrant removal. Make the pruning cut 1/2-inch above the lower junction with a healthy branch with the hand pruners. Larger branches that are dead or sickly are best pruned. 1. soak the sphagnum in some some rooting solution like (hydroponic chemicals, superthrive, b1 etc.) - couple of hours to soak.

In the fall, the delicate 5-lobed leaves which open pinkish-yellow, and mature to light green in summer, warm up to a soft yellow in fall before they shed to the ground.

2. prepare aluminum foil baggy or vertically slit pot w/cut-out hole in bottom.

3. shave out a large collar (1" high - i cut a tiny slit one time and only got 1/8 of the ring to root.). Mulch helps retain soil moisture and keep roots cool. Site in locations protected from strong winds. Avoid hot and dry sites. Fertilize in spring before leaves emerge. Pruning is best kept to a minimum, but if needed should be done in late fall to mid winter.
