Pruning enables tree stewards to improve the trees’ long-term health and form by addressing the following issues: 1.

Dead/Decaying/Damaged. Removal of dead, decaying, and damaged branches helps a tree compartmentalize the affected section and prevent further damage from disease, decay, or pests. Thanks to funding through the Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Grant, FOT is offering two free young-tree structural pruning workshops!

After you complete the virtual training and review questions, Friends of Trees will reach out to you via email to encourage you to sign up for your pruning volunteer shifts. NOTE: The training and review must be completed in order to receive the email invitation to sign up for pruning events. Jul 29, PRUNING: Generally it is safe to prune most trees in mid-summer, from roughly mid-July to mid-August to be more specific. However, you may want to pause pruning during an extreme heat event, including right before and right after an extreme event, so consult the weather forecast as part of your pruning plan.

Jul 26, Friends of Trees pruning events will be on Saturdays from July – early September. All we ask is you try and make it to 2 of the events. The pruning event dates this summer are 7/28, 8/11, 8/25, 9/8, and 9/ Food and beverages will be provided! When: Thursday, June 26th Time: We will open the doors at for food, drink, and mingling fun. Summer is a slower time for our tree planting and tree care activities, and you won’t see many events scheduled June-September.
